The BICYCLE REVOLUTION has begun

Written by  Karen S. Crisostomo

The 13th Tour of the Fireflies: BICYCLE REVOLUTION has begun and couldn’t have happened without YOU!!

THANK YOU to all our partners, supporters, sponsors, volunteers and marshals for fighting the fight with us. We thank you for believing and sharing in the Firefly Brigade’s advocacy in promoting the use of the bicycle and joining us in helping to raise awareness for the government’s environmentally sustainable transportation (EST) strategy.

THANK YOU to the 15,000 strong revolutionaries who happily braved the heat and the streets of Metro Manila rallying together for a worthy cause for a safer cycling environment so that we can all do our part in saving the Earth while improving the transport situation in the city.

The BICYCLE REVOLUTION has begun and MUST CONTINUE!

To ALL the 15,000 cyclists that joined this year’s tour and tours past, keep being brave cycling revolutionaries and continue to pedal strong EVERYDAY and NOT ONLY during the Tour of the Fireflies (which happens just once a year) otherwise our efforts will be for naught and our triumph short-lived and savored only momentarily.

Each day that we ALL choose to RIDE OUR BICYCLES and leave our cars at home brings us one day / one revolution of our wheels closer to what we all want: CLEAN AIR and more liveable cities.

Hopefully, all our combined efforts as environment advocates will pay off and soon we will all be riding safely in our city streets. We will witness the return of twinkling fireflies in the evenings to come and only then be able to claim for ourselves A TRULY SUCCESSFUL REVOLT, so keep fighting the fight!

More pedal power and God bless!!

    Ride Against Cancer

    What: Ride Against Cancer
    When: May 28, 2011 - June 1, 2011
Where: Manila > Tarlac > La Union > Vigan > Laoag

The Tour of Hope Philippines 2011, "500: Going the eXtra Mile Against Cervical Cancer - 5 days. 500 kilometers. 500 women SAVED" is all set on May 28 - June 1, 2011. We will be riding from Quezon City to Laoag City to help spread the word on the fight against the deadly disease.

Cervical Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the Philippines. Every day 12 Filipino families lose a mother, a wife, a sister because of cervical cancer. It is estimated that about 7,277 new cases of cervical cancer is diagnosed each year. Due to late diagnosis, more than half of these women will die within five years. However, what many people do not know is that cervical cancer is preventable.

Equipped with this knowledge and with the goal to save women, Bravehearts, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness on cervical cancer prevention, started this tour locally in 2008. The Tour of Hope has since covered 1,500kilometers, 15 cities and at least 2,000 lecture participants.

On behalf of Bravehearts President Ms. Abbygale Arenas - De Leon, I would like to invite you to be a part of this fight against cervical cancer, through a passion we all share - which is cycling.
